Goldfields Mohair Farm

Many locals and visitors to the Greater Bendigo region would have had memories of a day trip to the Goldfields Mohair Farm over the years. Originally known as the Lockwood Mohair Farm they would often find themselves charmed by the sight of Angora goats grazing peacefully and have the opportunity to purchase beautifully crafted, locally made mohair garments directly from the farm’s extensive retail shop. Each item carried with it the story of the farm, woven with care and tradition, making the farm a cherished name not just in the region, but in the broader tapestry of Australian agriculture.

In Victoria the farm holds a special place in the region's agricultural history, particularly for its pioneering role in the Australian mohair industry. Established in the 1960s, this farm began with just a small flock of Angora goats. Through passion and dedication, it quickly expanded, becoming renowned for its exceptional breeding program and the high-quality mohair it produced.

Mohair, a luxurious fiber celebrated for its softness, luster, and durability, found a perfect home at Lockwood. The farm didn’t just raise goats—it nurtured a legacy. The meticulous process of shearing the goats, spinning the fiber into yarn, and crafting it into exquisite garments all took place on the farm, adding a unique, hands-on touch to every piece produced.

The extensive shedding that housed the spinning mills has been stripped back over recent times as the farm wound up operations, however there are still some relics from the past to be discovered over the 79 acre property. This iconic property will be offered for sale with Expressions of Interest being invited from prospective buyers, our listing agent Kaylene Disher expecting it will generate keen interest both locally and interstate.
